Toyota Alabama in Huntsville will build the hybrid engine for the new 2023 Sequoia SUV coming this summer, the auto builder announced today. The engine assignment creates “long-term job stability for the (engine) plant’s 1,800 workers,” a Toyota spokeswoman said today. “This also demonstrates Toyota’s overall confidence in our local workforce,” spokeswoman Bekah Schmidt said.
Toyota says its “all-new Sequoia” model will feature the company’s “powerful twin-turbo V6 hybrid i-FORCE MAX powertrain” with a hybrid engine. The engine will produce 437 horsepower and 583 lb.-ft. of torque, the auto manufacturer said. Toyota already builds the engine in Huntsville for its Tundra pickup truck
