Hi all,
I just got my Sequoia back from the dealer and was very disappointed with the Toyota recall/fix. If you have had any experience with removing this cover when trailering, you noticed it was easy to remove and replace. The designers at Toyota decided to provide us with a new cover that utilizes some of the existing slotted clips but added 2 cheap new ones at the bottom that requires you to lay on the ground using a screwdriver or pick to remove these new clips. (See Photos) I use my Sequoia for trailering a lot, and this process is going to be a major hassle.
I contacted Toyota Brand Engagement Center 1 800 331-4331 and commented on this poor design/fix. If you feel the same as I this call center will advocate to raise this issue to a higher level in the organization to hopefully have their engineering department, take another look at this cover attachment.
We paid a lot of money for a quality Toyota product, and this is by far the poorest attempt you can imagine fixing this cover.

I bought 2024 Sequoia in September and I've been waiting for a solution for this since then ... good to know there is a fix finally out at least. I was told I would get a formal notification when this resolution was available, and now I'm wondering if I ever will ... or whether I should bother getting the new part. Looks like a PITA.

I just spoke to the dealership where I bought the car -- two hours RT from where I live. They said just to install the plate, they would need there "master tech" install this and they prefer me to drop the car off to have this repair done. I'm like, WTF? This was a plate that presumably I would pop on / off whenever I want to tow something.

Update:
Here's the fix I came up with instead of laying on the ground removing the 2 pins prior to towing. Simple and effective don't understand why Toyota didn't come up with a simple fix as this.
You can probably find these parts at your local auto parts store. I purchase mine at eBay for about $15.
