NEED Mechanical help

I'm looking at a 02 Sequoia 4.7L V8 at Auction, 168k miles, clean title, pretty clean it has "mechanical damage" filled out a ticket and they told me its a Bad Transmission. It has Vsc/Trac, Abs, CE, At/p and No PRDL lights on while running. I have a gut feeling its just a Transmission range sensor. I'm probably going to buy it regardless. But I'm trying to figure out what other odd ball thing could mimic a blown transmission. I cant see it in person its 1,200 miles away.
