Hello everyone,
Recently purchased a '23 Sequoia Limited. Love it except for two issues:
1) throttle delay/dead pedal when creeping at parking lot speeds
2) driver side window whistle

Haven't found a solution for either of these issues. The transmission hesitation I can compensate for. But the whistle drives me nuts. Anyone face this before and found a suitable solution?

Anyways, my dilemma really stems from some concerning service history I found in the Dealer logs that I unfortunately missed when purchasing. I should have inspected the carfax more closely but even that didnt have the full detail and I got swept up in excitement.

Here's the rub:
At 49k the previous owner had the following warranty repairs

Job 1
Date: 4/30/25
Operation: TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY
Details:
Guest states transmission oil is leaking; please check and advise
Transmission oil pump leaking fluid constantly
Porous pump seal causing internal failure to transmission
Removed and replaced transmission assembly
Performed calibration and ECU security synchronization
Performed ATF fluid adjustment

Job 2
Date: 4/30/25
Operation: R&R HYBRID MODULE ASSEMBLY
Details:
After installing transmission, further inspection found oil leak from hybrid module output shaft seal
Reference: T-SB-0095-24
Leaking HV module output shaft seal
R&R hybrid module assembly due to oil leaking from HV module output shaft seal

To me, these are major failures and it has sent me down a rabbit hole questioning the longevity of my purchase. It has 69k miles on it now with no noticeable issues other than the 2 aforementioned which are tolerable to an extent. yet, I don't trust the reliability of this vehicle.

I want a truck/ 3 row SUV but have financial constraints that would force me to lose more money. I'm not upside down but budget would be limited going into the next purchase given trade in value. I'm also a techie which comes at a premium. The creature comforts in this vehicle are amazing.

Looking for consolation and /or advice and solutions. Thanks for letting me vent.

You could try a Bank's pedal monster, that might help with the creeping slightly, maybe too much.
Driver window whistling could be an indication it had been in an accident tried to pinpoint where it's coming from. You could pick up some aftermarket weatherstrip and try to help in that fashion. Does the door lineup properly? Is there a gap that looks off anywhere along the perimeter? Finally, it could be coming from the mirror assembly as well but yes, a wind whistle would drive me crazy, hope you can get it figured out.

Thanks for the reply.
I ended up trading it in for a Lexus TX 350. Much happier now.
I'll miss feeling like the king of the road. But this ride is so smooth and quiet.

Hey, I think you made a good choice! And the banks pedal monster is actually pretty cool. It does make the vehicle feel a lot faster, even though all it really does is change the rate of the electric throttle, fly by wire so a small push on the pedal yields in immediate and greater throttle response.

I almost installed that kit in a 5th gen 4runner I had once. The inventor of that product seems really sharp.
The iforceMAX seems to have a lot of torque already, but I can see how this would improve throttle response at slower speeds.
I've read elsewhere that this "lag" is a symptom of the hybrid system switching between gas and electric. I don't think the hybrid implementation on a truck this size has been perfected yet. Even though Toyota's hybrids generally are class leaders.

And to your earlier points on wind noise, there were no obvious signs of collisions. I did see that the weather stripping was "weak". But the driver door was solid.

For anyone searching for wind whistle and wind noise, I will explain what happened to me. I bought a brand new 1998 Tahoe and it had a wind noise which was driving me crazy. Under the warranty, the dealer had it several times and even replaced the hatch glass as well. Long story short, I finally figured out the root cause. There was a slight gap where the weather strip came together on the hatch....it was actually too small of gap so when the truck's fan was on, it would whistle. Made the gap slightly larger and it went away. Not saying this is the issue with the Sequoia but my issue did not really change much tone with more or less speed. Agree with Peter.J that need to determine where it is coming from and then diagnose the root cause.
