Recently purchased a 2026 Sequoia Platinum Hybrid. Just took a one way trip of 275 miles. Going, was a perfect day, no wind. 16 mpg on the highway. On the return trip, it was windy but not a lot more than a regular day. Barely over 13.1 mpg. Granted, we are just getting close to 1,000 miles, but sure not at all happy with how the mpg is trending. Our total in town mpg after a recent fill is right at 13 mpg. A long way from their estimated 19 / 22 mpg. Any chance it will improve as we get a few more miles on the motor? This is way less than our 2023 V8 Lexus GX. Also, a lot less than my Chevy High Country V8 pickup. I was hoping the Hybrid would deliver a little more mpg than it is so far. Thanks for letting me rant.

I think the hybrid system in this car is more for instant torque delivery and that sweet takeoff g force. It's so fun to drive -- the throttle is very responsive. Don't get hung up on the MPGs.
I've noticed that the MPG counter will drop dramatically if I sit idle. That brings the overall average down. I switched my instrument cluster eco tab to "tank average" versus overall. Gives me a better signal to learn how much my driving style affects the counter. I average around 18-20.
The sweet spot in 65-75mph on the highway. 80 and up will create more drag and stop n go traffic doesn't help either.
Came from a '20 RX 450h and realized that this car doesn't have an EV mode. So it can't be compared to a previous generation Hybrid. Also, the GX is a lighter car (the 6th gen 4runner equivalent looks like a Rav4 size-wise). So you have to take that all into consideration.

Thanks so much for your reply. Our mileage is showing total overall. Iām having trouble finding where you change it in the settings to ātank averageā. Iām not very tech savvy is part of the problem.

Changed to "tank average" on my lunch break and on a short trip in town I was at 18.2mpg. Much better! Thanks again.
